Playing the "Buy Local" card done well... 97 years ago
Playing the "Buy Local" card is a common tactic for local manufacturers to use against multinationals and foreign invaders, aka importers. "Buy New Zealand Made" has wide recognition in New Zealand, even if consumers often fail to heed the call.
Here's a wonderful example from Canada that dates right back to 1915...

Superior Barn Equipment was a major Canadian manufacturer of barn and shop goods early last century. They branded just about everything they made, and every part of everyhing they made, with their slogan "The Superior Way". You can see it in the top left hand corner of the image above.
In New Zealand, Whittakers play their localness and their heritage really well. They've certainly wrong-footed Cadbury as Cadbury increasingly rationalises its Australasian manufacturing and brand portfolio.
Superior Barn Equipment's "Made In Canada" campaign is a great example to add to the swipe file. We think it would work just as well today as it did 97 years ago.
Kudos to Damn Yak Dry Goods Co. for the above image.
